The DMS-90 is a dual-beam scanning spectrophotometer which provides for both a sample and reference cell to be placed in the light beam. The advantage of this arrangement is for the automatic "zeroing" of the spectrophotometer, correcting for background, as it scans from one wavelength to another. This instrument can also be used in a "single-beam" mode where only a sample cell is used. In this case, there is no correction for background in the spectral plot.
