The purpose of the Justice and Peace Committee of Saint John's
Abbey is twofold: It attempts to raisey its own initiative or by
encouraging existing efforts. In its educational goals, the
committee attempts to provide resources or direct the monastic
community to resources that both inform and form our understanding
of the gospel call to make peace by working for justice. both
individual and community consciousness about issues of justice and
peace, and it actively promotes projects that advance peace and
justice causes, either by its own initiative or by encouraging
existing efforts. In its educational goals, the committee attempts
to provide resources or direct the monastic community to resources
that both inform and form our understanding of the gospel call to
make peace by working for justice. Primary among the committee's
concerns is the way in which the monastery's community life reflects
the gospel values of peace and justice, especially concern and care
for the poor and disadvantaged.
