Mid-Term Evaluation

 Course Overview/Philosophy.
Recall the goals/objectives of our course from the General Information handout and that our course is divided into three sections: (1) General Skills including nomenclature and terminology (phytography); (2) Families; and (3) Classification.  We are now at a good point in our studies to evaluate our experiences.  This will help determine the direction of the remainder of the semester and in many ways is a better time for an evaluation than the end of the semester since you will directly benefit from the results of the survey.  I will summarize the results and make them available to you.

  1. What have you liked about the course?

  2. What have you disliked?

  3. What is the one thing that you really think needs to be changed?

  4. What is your opinion of the workload?

  5. What do you think about the remainder of the lecture topics we will cover this year?  Any others you would like to cover?  What is your opinion of the remainder of the lab topics?  Others you would prefer?

  6. Would you prefer a traditional textbook?

  7. What is your overall opinion of the lab experience?

  8. What did you think about the field trip labs and the goal of learning local plant species?  Should we continue or discontinue them?  If we discontinue, then we'd also discontinue the PTK quizzes/exam.  In this case, can you suggest what alternatives you'd prefer?  For example, would you prefer to replace a field trip with a lab on, say using a key or vegetative terminology or fruit structure?  And what sort of assessment do you think is appropriate (e.g., lab practical? lab report? quiz?)

  9. What did you think about the PTK quizzes and exam?  (do you think the quizzes will help in preparing you for the exam?Or, are the quizzes too much busy work?  If we do away with the quizzes, how, if at all should students be held accountable for lab work?)

  10. Give at least one suggestion as to how this class could be improved to make it the best class you've ever had.

  11. Has the course fulfilled your expectations?  Why or why not?

  12. Complete the following sentence:

I, the person completing this evaluation,  ____________   (fill in the blank with one of the following or your own - love, like, dislike, hate, groove on) plants because:

  13. What is your opinion of the test(s)?

  14. Do you have any additional comments?
