Roles and Responsibilities
Preceptor Responsibilities
1. Orient student to unit or facility.
2. Collaborate with student on identifying experiences to achieve learning goals.
3. Provide ongoing feedback to student regarding performance or any event that jeopardizes student or patient safety.
4. Function as a role model and resource person for student; assume responsibility for patient care.
5. Complete progress and final student evaluations.
Student Responsibilities
1. Adhere to clinical site policies, procedures, and provide safe client care.
2. Identify learning goals and be accountable and responsible for achieving goals.
3. Communicate learning experiences on an ongoing basis to clinical faculty and preceptor.
4. Participate in evaluation of progress toward meeting learning goals.
5. Adhere to negotiated schedule and work agreement; communicate necessary changes according to agreed upon process.
6. Acknowledge preceptor contributions to progress toward student achievement of learning goals.
7. Attend all required course related functions.
8. Complete all related course work by established due dates.
9. Notify preceptor and clinical faculty about any event that jeopardizes student or patient safety.
Clinical Faculty Responsibilities
1. Determine learning strategies that facilitate attainment of course objectives.
2. Communicate with preceptor and student on an ongoing basis.
3. Follow-up in a timely manner on any issues that may arise with the experience.
4. Evaluate student learning and provide feedback on assignments.
