Week Two

Lab 1

Objective: Exemplify your understanding of the principles and elements covered this week by discussing their use in two different websites.

Sorry, not enough time for this lab.  I'm taking the course "Auditor - Not Pass," but still learning lots of new things.

Lab 2

Objective: Define your statement of purpose for your website composite, logo, or print design.

1. What is the purpose or message of your website?

The purpose of the website is to provide information about the Congregation. The message is that the Congregation is a group of independent monasteries supporting contemporary men in a variety of monastic lifestyles.

2. As a designer, what are some of the things you can do to ensure that the comp you create is more successful from the start? (in other words, what are some of the things you need to do to make sure you save time by creating a more successful design in your first try)?

It is important to have a good understanding of what the Congregation is by learning about its structure and purpose.  One needs to know the purpose of the website. One should have an idea of the content and how it will be organized.

Conversation with the project director is important to discover the tone or style that is expected.  It's helpful to become familiar with similar websites.

It's good to sketch out a rough design on paper before working on the comp.

3. Who is your intended audience?

The primary audience consists of the members of the Congregation who are looking for fundamental  documents or directory information such as postal addresses, telephone or fax numbers, websites or an email contact.

Secondarily the website serves others who might be curious about modern monastic life or are looking for contact information for the Congregation or a particular monastery.

Main Project

Objective: Continue building your composite.

Go to The Project or Week 3.
