There are three parts to this intriguing standard:
1.that a teacher would use technology to explain the history of technology and
to deepen students' awareness of technology
2. that a teacher would use technology to open up worlds to diverse students who have some
difficulty with learning
3. that a teacher would use technology to help students who are gifted to find challenging
tasks.
A teacher who sent students to the web to look for information on steamboats,( and an intriguing site linking personal experience and Huck Finn and rafts), the telegraph, and the railroad and its history both here and abroad (throughout the world) would be inviting students to reflect on the history and development of technology in the United States. The teacher who confronts technology should avoid a luddite viewpoint and be aware of the history of this viewpoint..
